Lacasse Construction’s first project with the Cumberland Museum was an upgrade to the front of the building aimed to raise awareness of the organization and ensure accessibility for all people.

After the completion of the accessibility project, the Museum caught the attention of the Y.P. Heung Foundation, led by Mr. Raymond Heung. Raymond and his family have supported countless projects in Arts & Culture, Education, Health, and Asian Migration across BC. Mr. Heung and his foundation made it a personal mission to provide funding to the Museum to create a space that would allow for the proper display of artifacts and the option to host traveling exhibits.

Lacasse Construction was proud to work with the Y.P. Heung Foundation to perform a large-scale interior renovation of the Museum including custom-built oak furniture and a coal-mine shaft. The project also involved the construction of a climate-controlled ‘Archive and Collection Room’ designed to create specific environmental conditions by implementing temperature and humidity controls for storing sensitive collections.

This project was particularly significant to the Lacasse family, whose grandfather and great grandfather worked as coal miners in Cumberland, BC. The opportunity to celebrate the work and history of two early generations of our family was a humbling and sentimental experience for the family.
