Lacasse Construction is honoured to have been selected by the K’ómoks First Nation to lead the construction of their new administration building. Lacasse worked with the design team including the architect and full complement of consultants during preconstruction planning.

The building is positioned close to an estuary which posed many challenges and required that a large raft slab was constructed under the building. The raft slab was designed to protect the integrity of the building during an earthquake to ensure life safety for the building occupants.

Many very special components make up this project, including floor-to-ceiling windows, and a significant amount of western red cedar and douglas fir. Fir makes up the main structure of the building, which was designed by the architects to be intentionally exposed. Cedar is used both inside and outside the building. Inside, the ceiling has varied widths of cedar running lengthwise to create architectural velocity heading towards the water. Outside, 3’ hand-built cedar shingle cladding runs along the front of the building to protect against strong winds in the fall and winter. Most significantly, totem poles carved by Calvin Hunt and Karver Everson are situated at the front of the building, representing the four families of the K’ómoks people.

Award of Merit: K'ómoks First Nation Administration Building

Award in Community Institutional, Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial

During my years as Elected Chief of the K’omoks First Nation I have worked closely and collaboratively with Lacasse Construction. I have found the owners of the company to be hard working, honest and solution oriented when dealing with project management and daily objectives. Both Rick Lacasse and his son Cale Lacasse have shown themselves to process a high degree of integrity and have demonstrated a sincere interest in our First Nation culture and have a profound respect for our conflicted history. In 2014, Lacasse Construction was contracted to build K’omoks a new multi-million dollar administration building. The job was completed on time and on budget. I highly recommend both Rick and Cale Lacasse for the work that they do.
