The Lacasse Construction team worked with the client to evaluate multiple properties for their new home. Properties were considered in terms of environmental challenges, constructability, and overall cost.

As the selected property is located on an Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), the project involved the Lacasse team’s active engagement with the municipality and Agricultural Land Commission in order to ensure demolition, development, and building permits were successful.

To prepare for construction, Lacasse sustainably decommissioned the existing home on the property with 90% of the building being repurposed. A bridge was also constructed to protect a fish bearing habitat on the land.

The farm-acreage build featured an architect-designed home, with a pool and sauna. Built to BC Energy Code Step 5 standards, the home includes a dynamic combination of concrete, wood, and glass elements. Lacasse collaborated with the architect in order to deliver on Passive House elements of construction including a large steel structure that allows for sun-assisted warming during the winter months, and blocking of heat from the sun during the summer.
